    • What a Tesla Model S versus E63 AMG drag race really looks like - Renntech tuned E63 AMG beats down the record setting Tesla Model S

Just a few days ago a misleading video was posted of a Tesla Model S beating a new bi-turbo E63 AMG in a "drag" race. The drag race was not one on the drag strip and it hardly went long enough favoring the lower trap speed / lower top end of the Tesla Model S over the E63 AMG. The fact is, when a Tesla Model S lines up on a drag strip versus an E63 AMG as it did here it is going to get flat out smacked right across its electric behind.

Defenders of the electric wonder car will say the E63 AMG has a Renntech Tune. Yep, it does, and the tune only E63 AMG runs 11.1@128 to the Tesla's 12.4@107. This same Tesla that was claimed to beat Vipers in a drag race (a properly launched SRT-10 will beat the Tesla Model S down as well) and even the new F10 M5. Go ahead and try to run low 11's in your Tesla Model S with just a tune, you won't. Go ahead and try and beat any of the aforementioned cars in a full 1/4 mile with the Tesla Model S when they are not launched by someone's 90 year old grandmother. Not happening.

Videos regarding the Tesla Model S drag race performance are just hype and skewed in its favor. A stock E63, tuned E63, Performance Package E63, F10 M5, and SRT-10 Viper are all faster cars stock or modded than the Tesla on the drag strip or highway. This drag video below is more realistic than the propaganda put out to this point favoring the electric sedan.

It's a 4 wheel drive Tesla S, so on normal roads it's gonna have an advantage in grip.
On a dragstrip this changes due to the grip every opponent is gonna have.
And in this case a dedicated opponent driver.
The Tesla is always gonna lose on top speed, just because it does not have enough of it. It tops out at 200km/h, and struggles on the last part, despite it's 400Nm torque.
This Tesla is a novelty, nothing more.
A full battery charge takes 14.5 hours, no actual numbers are known as to how long you can use the car at max power on one battery charge, the car's performance declines when the battery charge is less then 100%, those facts make every drag video you see with a Tesla a glory run. Any second run with the car the performance declines.
This car is just irrelevant. It's a treehugger's wet dream.

Their point should of been we raced a TUNED RENNtech E63 and we came close in beating them, then that, would of been GREAT news instead of MISLEADING it!! WTF Tesla get your sheit together MISREPRESENTATION will get you nowhere in SALES Stupid FA:LKS!!

Looks pretty similar to the other video. Tesla takes the lead, and somewhere around 70+mph the gas powered car pulls away.

The false start sure does suck and skew things though. You'd think if someone setup that many camera, they'd at least get one good run...

The redlight is what gives that impression on the E63 is on street tires. Even so though a properly launched E63 will rip it out of the hole and put bus-lengths on it.

There was nothing misleading about the first video. The distance was greater than 1/4 mile, the E63 was stock, the driver drag races all the time, and it got spanked straight up.

They did multiple other tests too with different start speeds, and the Model S always jumped out to a lead (often a big one) and then the E63 would reel it in as speeds increased.

After taking the video, the E63 owner took his car to Renntech and got a tune which took the car up to 700+hp and asked for a rematch (he's friends with the Model S owner, and had driven the Model S owner to pick up his new car, after which they made the first video on the ride back).

The video you posted is the result. Anyone who thinks their stock E63 AMG is going to have its way with the Model S Performance at the drag strip is apt to be surprised. The cars are very evenly matched in the 1/4 mile, and the Model S always jumps out to a big lead.

But thinking that watching a Model S get spanked by a 700hp tuner car somehow is invalidating "propaganda", is just somewhat divorced from reality. A stock E63 would be manhandled just as readily.

Running up to 110 mph is not a full 1/4 mile for the E63, sorry. Take a look at its trap speed.

No, spanked is what you see in this video. An E63 not launching and a Tesla getting a jump in a shorter race as the E63 reels it in isn't spanking. An 11.@128 beatdown is spanking, basically a joke of a comparison.

I didn't see any previous race on a drag strip, did you?

        Hahahahahhah!

10 grand, right now, you versus me in a stock Tesla Model S versus an E63 AMG at the drag strip.

The E63 will run 11's stock at close to 120 and the Tesla world record is a 110 trap speed. How is that evenly matched? That's such a large spread it isn't much of a race unless the E63 owner is asleep at the light or running skewed races like what we have seen. Funny how a real race at the strip, with a real launch, results in spin from you.

Right, the Tesla Model S is faster than a Viper SRT-10, F10 M5, or E63 AMG. I love the world you live in. The problem is, I live on Earth, where each of those mentioned cars will beatdown the Tesla Model S as it runs away in shame to find a wall charger after a couple passes.

It's a nice engineering exercise. It isn't anywhere near as capable of a performance platform as this E63 AMG just demonstrated.

12.49 is still impressive for battery powered car and that Renntech car is a far cry from stock running 11.11

        Tune only... far cry?

Sure the Tesla is an impressive science experiment but this crap about how fast it is drag racing faster cars and supposedly "winning" needs to stop.

Maybe it wins in 100 foot drag races because it has 700 ft-lbs of torque at 0 rpm and that only lasts about 1 second then power drops off like a fat kid on crack. Ever seen the torque curve of an electric motor? it's worse than a diesel.

Bingo... and it looks exaggerated when the gasoline car doesn't even try to launch especially when turbos need to spool. Like the BS earlier videos.

This is the same E63 biturbo in stock form. I think it still beats the Model S.Click here to enlarge I'm friends with the owner and race with him all the time. He has even ran my E55 down the strip. And he did NOT race the S and run and get a tune.

        Gas = Good
        300+Volts = Green
Gas+Volts = Great... Performance hybrids -> the wave of the future.

I would be afraid to buy a Tesla. Look at what happened to Fiskar. One shot ponies are too risky. 3 different battery options doesnt make a car line.
