We all know the S65 has a rod bearing issue. Not all engines suffer from premature bearing wear/failure, but enough do. BMW has had rather embarrassing issues with rod bearings in the past so we wanted to get ahead of the curve and release the 3 proven products that will strengthen our favorite BMW engines. For those interested in the ultimate in oil management, our billet dry sump kit is for you!

      Individual Components

      VAC Coated Connecting Rod Bearings

We have sold 10s of thousands of rod bearings for every BMW engine. We sell to BMW engine builders, BMW shops, BMW racers and every day BMW enthusiasts (generally, in that order) We have personally built 100s of BMW engines and have had many others in for various work so it's safe to say that we have figured out the *best* coating choice.

Our VAC Bearing Sets are specially coated and constructed to reduce friction in your V8 to a minimum; enabling lower temps and faster revolutions in your expensive BMW engine.

Our coated bearings are thermal breakdown resistant, helping to prevent premature engine failures under stress when things are most critical. These bearings can last much longer than any normal bearing set as proven by our customers results. Needless to say, our VAC bearings are used in all our highest performance BMW engine builds and racing engines.

These bearings have become a favorite product of all our professional engine building customers around the globe who have reported unparalleled wear characteristics under all conditions.

This coating was originally developed for the US military but NASCAR teams, ALMS teams and many as well as other customers that require "mission critical" quality.

Our bearings are used by by both the 1st and 2nd fastest BMW drag cars in the USA, as well as our road racing & endurance customers around the world (daily drivers too!. If you are looking for high performance bearings, this is the Rod Bearing set for you.

      Cost:
$479 for a complete set of coated S65 rod bearings. We start with OEM BMW bearings then have our time tested coating applied.

      ARP Connecting Rod Bolts

ARP is the world leader in fastener technology. As builders of the finest fasteners in the market ARP is the choice when you want the highest reliability possible. Our ARP Con Rod Bolt Sets give you a clear advantage over the OEM Con Rod Bolts: unbeatable strength! Even cosmetically, the difference in construction and quality is apparent. If you look at many of the OEM bolts, you will see a taper on the threads which actually takes away bolt grip. ARP Pro Series connecting rod bolts are precision CNC-machined to exacting specifications and designed for optimum reliability. They are designed for full engagement and heat-treated with threads which are rolled to provide up to ten times more fatigue strength than standard OEM BMW fasteners.

Due to the fact that the OE Connecting Rod Bolt is typically one of the first failure points in the bottom end of the BMW engine (Turbo, SC, or Naturally Aspirated) We can't recommend these bolts enough! If your rebuilding you're engine, and have any performance aspirations but cannot afford upgraded aftermarket rods; invest in much stronger ARP con rod bolts.

      Cost: $299.95

VAC S65 Oil Pan Baffle Service

We have offered track proven oil pan baffles for all popular BMW engines for years and we now offer a proper weld in oil pan baffle system for the S65. Yes, even our favorite BMW road engine can really benefit from a baffle solution. Why? Simply put, our oil pan baffle system was designed to improve oil control and reduce oil starvation. Even our beloved S65 with its dual pickup system can experience oil starvation during track use - the G forces moves the oil supply away from the pickup - ESPECIALLY on long sweeping turns. Our baffle system utilizes trap doors to keep oil around the sump. Additionally it provides much improved drainback and oil control. As with any VAC baffle, these are made in the USA.

Since the S65 pan is very intricate we ONLY offer a core based solution right now. Meaning, you either:
      a. send us your core S65 oil pan, we modify it and send it back
      b. buy a core S65 oil pan from us that we modify then send to you. Send us your pan and receive the full core charge back (assuming the pan is not damaged)

      Cost:
      $249.95 for the baffle +
      $249.95 for the service +
optional $600 core charge (good used S65 oil pan)

      Please PM for this service.

@Mike@VAC , any chance you guys could make some N54 head bolts/studs available? Think this might be a good idea for those just looking to use a thicker OEM headgasket to drop compression a bit and clamp the head down stronger. Some nice valve springs/retainers too..

        Updated Click here to enlarge

Most shops will charge at least 15 hours for the in car rod bearing swap.

dzenno: yes, yes and yes. Should have something soon for all of you big hitters. (I already have CP pistons, Carrillo and Arrow rods in stock ;-)

Cool, will do. I suggest a Blackstone oil test as well. Always interesting to see if they are accurate. So far, so good with the cars that have come through.

Oddly enough, the oil sample from our white monster came back pretty clean - which would seem unlikely since it's an early 08 and it's been driven VERY VERY hard.

Can you share pictures of a used set of VAC coated bearings? I'm very curious how the wear would look after the same mileage, 50K, 100K, etc..

        Don't have any of these.

From the first post, "We sell to BMW engine builders, BMW shops, BMW racers and every day BMW enthusiasts (generally, in that order) We have personally built 100s of BMW engines and have had many others in for various work so it's safe to say that we have figured out the *best* coating choice"

        That is all true.
