Want more Audi sportscar talk? Apparently they feel there is room below the R8 for an R4 model which would challenge the Porsche Boxster although this car seems unlikely as well. First of all, sales between it and the Audi TT Would overlap and secondly Porsche likely wouldn't want direct competition from Audi considering they are both a part of the VW group now.
Durheimer likes the Audi of a mid-engined Audi below the R8 though stating the R4 is in "design, packaging and evaluation" phases of development. He went on to say, "It's difficult to realize for production. We would want to bring technology to the segment, but getting the volume and pricing right for a mainstream sports car would be a challenge. Something mid-engined would be the perfect solution for an Audi of this size. It would have two boots, perfect weight distribution and perfect handling."
So basically what is coming from Audi after the Shanghai motorshow regarding more sportscars is a bunch of "maybe" it will happen. They seem to be focused more on SUV's for now.
