• The new D4 Audi S8 takes on a Eurocharged Stage 3 Tuned W221 S65 AMG and a stock CLS63 AMG bi-turbo Performance Package

Here is the new Audi S8 in action against some stout competition. The new S8 is very fast in stock form which the S8 you will racing happens to be. How fast? How does 11.9@118 in the 1/4 mile right off the showroom floor sound? It's not the lightest car though with a 4620 pound curb weight. Despite this, it hides its weight very well and actually does a great job against very formidable opponents namely the Eurocharged tuned S65 AMG with its twin turbo 6.0 liter V12.

A roll on race will simply favor the S65 AMG but it is surprising how well the stock Audi S8 does against it. The S65 AMG is heavier at 5097 pounds so that is a disadvantage but the car is just a monster up top. Eurocharged is able to get another 79 wheel horsepower and 100 pound-feet at the wheels out of the car with its tune. It isn't losing from a roll to the stock S8, period. It also should not lose from a stop but it looks like some driver mods are necessary.

The CLS63 AMG with the Performance Package also does well. It does lose from a stop to the S8 (as expected versus the all wheel dive Audi) but up top from a roll it also pulls the S8 relatively easily. The Performance Package M157 is simply stronger.

The Audi S8 would benefit from a tune and also from a better driver. The S8 owner does not seem to know how to brake boost or be in the right gear. He simply seems to get on the accelerator and then let the transmission adjust once the race begins. Regardless, the S8 is a stout car car these two benzes are faster. It would have been nice to see a race just between the S65 AMG and CLS63 AMG but we can't always have everything we want. Videos are below.

Exactly not sure what he is doing. Guy sucks at racing. Seriously, you have all wheel drive put one foot on the brake and one on the accelerator when going from a stop and see what happens when you release the brake...

honestly I don't know if it's heat soak or what but it seems like the Mercedes has the right gear selected, jumps a car then holds a car. It either maintains it until the end of the race, gets pulled slightly and still wins (1/2 car) or pulls slightly (1/2 CL or so) and wins. From a dig it looks like the S65 spun or the traction control caught in, regardless it didn't even pass it at 155mph and the S8 didn't brake launch which easily gave up 1 CL. These cars are pretty close, I am fully convinced even with that transmission, and the S8 being more like a 580hp car stock that the S65 is not a 700bhp car.

There is also about a 400lb weight difference (advantage audi).

Nothing significant when you're close to 5k pounds, but in a race this close it matters.

That amount really shouldn't matter that much at 140+, it gets to be more about aero.

More disturbing to me, is how none of them seem to know what a lane is. I know I wouldn't want to race either one of them, the way they haphazardly cross lanes. The Audi is sick!!

For whatever reason that's what these guys always do in this videos. I've mentioned it and I just don't get why they drive they way it's idiotic.

Very interesting, S8s are fast as hell, I love those things. Kind of sad to see the S65 isn't really the king anymore. I think the real story here is how fast the CLS is, that thing is flying. That's interesting though, because magazine tests put the S8 at faster than the M5/6, whereas these guys have a video of an M6 beating that CLS like, 5 out of 6 times, by a decent length. Either way, all of these things are fast. I'd love to see what the S8 can do with the MTM tune, as that's the only one available right now.

The S8 just gets a good ET due to its all wheel drive. From a roll, the M5/M6 will spank it.

Yeah I would imagine so as well. Especially with some of the times I'm seeing for out of the box M5/6s.
