• 220 pound weight loss planned for the next generation 2014 W205 C-Class? 3400 pound range curb weight?

There is a power war going on and now it seems we have a weight loss war to add to the mix. Mercedes already showed it intends to save weight with the debut of the new R231 SL-Class which had the goal of shaving 300 pounds off the curb weight. Mercedes-Benz came very close shaving 242 pounds from the car officially which is a healthy drop. This leads one to believe that Mercedes can meet their ambitious goal of 220 pounds or at least close to it off the W205 C-Class for 2014.

This would mean the C350 would drop into the 3400 pound curb weight range. That is pretty light for a C-Class and would make it lighter than the 3545 pound curb weight BMW quotes for the F30 335i. If Mercedes gets lighter in this segment that certainly makes the next generation C63 AMG versus M3 battle very interesting as the C63 likely won't suffer from the same large weight penalty it did in the W204 versus E90 generation battle. We will know more after the official debut later this year but it is nice to see manufacturers doing more than just upping power and torque.

That's a good looking car. I can't wait to see what Mercedes has in store for the C63 AMG.

I feel the looks are getting better... although less edgy.

+1. I think most Mercedes models are looking better and better, but I am not really into the CLA design. This C-class looks stunning though.

I have to see the CLA in person to fully decide.
