    • An interview with CP-E (Custom Performance Engineering) regarding their N54 turbo upgrade kit at SEMA 2013

Yes it is still coming and here is the proof. What you will see below are pictures and a discussion about the CP-E (Custom Performance Engineering) BMW N54 twin turbo upgrade kit. Pricing has not yet been set hence why the rampant speculation on the forums regarding this upgrade was unwarranted. What can be said is this kit will cost over $10k. How much over $10k is up in the air but that figure will also depend on options.

An option for example is a port injection supplemental fuel system. The fuel system is not included with the kit. Tuning will be handled by COBB although other tuning options will come later for this setup. How much power this makes will be limited by supporting mods and things such as the fuel system. N54 aficionados already know what the stock fuel system can support so if one wants more power than what the stock fuel system supports which the turbos can support the fuel system option will be needed.

The current expected ETA of completion is by January, 2014. For further details please listen to the interview video below.

      Please note
      :

      • This was an impromptu interview. There was no advanced notice and it was treated as an on the fly discussion.
      • CP-E will eventually release a standalone tuning solution but intends to accommodate all tuning solutions including those from BMS @Terry@BMS

Cp-E is an amazing company and it would be awesome to have all the developmental resources they have, this would've been a very fun (and frustrating lol) project to work on having all of that. Kudos to cp-e for building what appears to be a masterpiece N54 turbo kit that will install/fit well and that's entirely complete.

I've got at least 4 of them in my garage... I looked back at my computer files recently. I had over 150 firmware flashes stored. That means I was in my ecu box at least that many times. lol.
It was a good system. CPE just never added the staff to support its development.

lol, i saw it a few weeks ago when packing some things and decided to leave it there just in case. I was always wondering what me and jake could have done with it at the time, or if it will ever be relevant again- would hate to ditch it and a few months from now it be useful to somebody

as much as i think the N54 block should be strong enough to make a boatload of power... i wouldn't doubt twin GTX35's at high boost will easily grenade the motor.

the twin 30's, however, over the 2867's... well that'd likely be a fairly interesting comparison Click here to enlarge.. assuming the 28's can be run out without breaking things too much Click here to enlarge

What a gorgeous piece of engineering. Thanks for the interview and the coverage of this kit.
That "rep" is actually the owner. Nice guy, meet him a few times. I saw this kit in various stages of development over the last few years at their shop.

Twin GTX3582R's is about 1400 HP worth of air! Unfortunately, you wouldn't see full spool until over 6000 RPM LOL.

IMO, those turbo choices leave a lot to be desired. Going anything above a 28 frame garrett wheel family in twin form on the N54 is a complete and total overkill unless this is a 100% track car with anti-lag set up and possibly a small shot of nitrous. The only exception might be twin GTX3076R's but even then you are looking at least 5000-5250 spool time without help. This just doesn't seem ideal. But the close ups of the kit, man that thing is beautiful and well done. Very good job CP-e, just not sure exactly who this kit is marketed towards? People who want an all out race car usually would like to save weight over OEM quality such as water cooled gates, all cast parts, etc. The people who want OEM quality are usually the people with money to burn who wants a car that drives like stock but with a lot more power. Putting them in a car with twin 30 series lag on the street I would have to imagine they would be highly disappointed. Either way, very curious to see the numbers.

Also no idea where they are getting GTX2871? Garrett makes GTX2860-67, and they make a GT2871R but they do not offer a 71mm GTX wheel. So I would imagine they are referring to the GT2871R, non billet turbo.

They are using the Garrett 71R compressor map the website, but the final product will be Tial turbos so it's plausible that they're adding the billet bits

Tial does not make their own turbos, or wheels. They make housings, and they make other turbo related products, but all Tial turbos use Garrett CHRA's. If they have started making wheels it would be something that is new, I guess its possible.

Saw this up close, but when we were there the "interviewe" wasn't there, just some lady that couldn't answer what size turbos were on that kit. GTX35s!!! That is so nuts lol.
Up close it is a very clean and extremely well engineered kit. Good luck CP-E, can't wait for dyno #s .
