    • The Mercedes-Benz C190 AMG GT will have a rear hatch design - Spyphotos

So you know Mercedes-Benz and AMG are building a sports car to take on the Porsche 911, right? You know this car will slot in below where the SLS AMG currently is positioned in the lineup which is also set to end production, right? You know the car will feature a twin turbo 4.0 liter motor internally designated the M178 which is testing with an output up to 590 horsepower, right? Well now you also know the car will feature a rear hatchback tail lift design diverging from the traditional trunk seen in the SLS AMG.

Why Mercedes-Benz decided on such a design is unclear but it is very similar to the rear hatch of the C7 Corvette. Mercedes is using a lightweight aluminum frame so it is possible that by utilizing a sloping rear roof and hatch they maintain a high degree of structural rigidity. Regardless, the AMG GT will have a look all its own and it will not just be a smaller SLS.

Enjoy the pictures below and yes those appear to be very large carbon ceramic rotors on the car.

Looks like an interesting shape for the rear, not sure if I like it...

The rear end actually looks a little 911ish to me

It's the length of the hatch in it's side profile that I'm not too sure about.
