    • What is faster, a stock F10 M5 or a E92 335i with upgraded OEM turbos?

The F10 M5 is a pretty quick car even in stock form despite its porky weight. Once all that mass is moving the car is tough to beat from a roll partially due to the dual clutch transmission shift speed and also partially due to its big turbo punch. Obviously, it is much faster than a stock 335i but the 335i it races from a roll in the video you are about to watch is not stock. It features upgraded twin turbos although it is a mild upgrade using the OEM turbo housings.

The 335i also has BMS JB4 G5 ISO piggyback with complimentary flash tuning courtesy of the BimmerBoost flash software. It is nice to see users benefit from BimmerBoost's software development to open up tuning for the platform. Clearly @Sick335 is showing his appreciation in practice .

The 335 ends up pulling up top decisively against the M5. The power figures between the two are likely fairly close but the 335's power to weight advantage is far too great for the M5 to overcome. Hopefully the M5 owner gets a tune on his car and this comparison can take place again so the M5 can show what it is capable of.

Lets see what it costs to go FBO+stage 2 turbos...(assuming all work yourself since I'm sure that's what you did on your DSM)

Upgraded turbos- ~$3200 (depends on options, this assumes billet wheel)

        Install parts for turbos- ~$250

        FMIC- ~$500

        Downpipes- $380

Tune and Meth Kit (BMS+BB Flash)- ~$1,100

        Intake- $110

        255 walbro inline upgrade- ~$140

        NGK Plugs- ~$70

        Thermostat- $60

GRAND TOTAL- $5,810 and of course you could do without a couple things, buy cheaper or used of a few others, but it's really not expensive to go FBO on this platform with upgraded turbos. Of course you can buy Active Autowerke, COBB, ETS, etc. parts and get up to ~$10k, but it's not necessary, and I'm sure your DSM was rocking a Garret GTX turbo and a $1200 intercooler, etc., etc. , etc.

By the way, i did race a single turbo N54 at the last event. You can check the results of that on the other, technical forum.

His car has been done for what? About a year now Dan?

Stage 2 turbo discussion is a thing of the past...unless like this thread is...we're comparing these mild upgrades to the performance of some flagship STOCK performance cars? lulz

Seriously though @Sick335 it's a great car, I almost went with Stage 2 turbos, I'm sure it's a blast to drive. How long you had the turbos? RB's right?

Ok...I really don't see how that's possible but whatever you want to claim bro. Can't be good quality parts if that's the case, and obviously you can't compare the two cars off a drag/airstrip.

No claims that are false. Runs a Holset HX40@32 psi, (400 dollar turbo) and a proper setup engine with Pauter rods and Wiseco pistons. As far as an airstrip comparison I'll take on anyone happily for fun. 2300lbs and ran 10.17 on drag radials.
Car was a 500 dollar shell, block and head were 100 bucks bare. I'm quite good at budget builds as I've had years to learn.

That's right. It's not an OEM turbo upgraded 335i it's the most powerful E9X in the world. I mean so what if there's more money under the hood than your car is worth.

Siiiiick335 bro. Stock M5's are scared to run you now I bet. YSI M3's too.

When you basically have all stock OEM parts and aren't pushing anything it isn't all that impressive to have successful runs down the runway. It's awesome to do run after run I guess even if it is slowly.

Some people are happy being average and not pushing the limits. Mediocrity isn't is acceptable to me. Love your car man. Hope to run it some day if you don't mind running M cars that aren't stock.

lol, that's actually pretty cool to have as a toy. I'll give you props on that. Not personally my cup of tea but...I do enjoy seeing builds like that and give respect when it's due. Any vids of it?

Still not sure how you got away so cheap with fabrication, wastegate, and the motor internals...I guess if you do absolutely everything yourself and buy everything used it can be done. Nothing wrong with that! Roll cage and fire extinguisher I hope? lol

Well now don't forget, you can crank up stage 2 turbos if you want...just be ready to rebuild them...lol

I'm not going to take anything away from a Stage 2 turbo car though, I'm sure it really is a fun car

Why don't we race? Are the rules to race you that you have to be stock?

        RB turbos? Is this 2011?

Auto power cage, and basic fire system. I fab everything myself, and tune with DSM link which was 300 bucks. I ran it at the DSM shootout it's a well known build Click here to enlarge
With a GT42 which is upcoming it'll go 9s no bottle on pump.
Thanks for the praise, DSMs have been a part of my life for 13 years.

Do you ever go to the import face-off stuff? I live not too far from Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, FL. They hosted the season opener this year, I was thoroughly impressed with the showing.

What was the shell anyway? A Talon? Eclipse?

Oh I know I'm butting in since he wants to talk down to me. He has a 335 with RB turbos. Essentially, the weakest turbo upgrade one can make in the N54 world. I have pairs of shoes that cost more than his mods.

And he wants to talk smack? It's like when North Korea tries to poke the USA.
