  • Volkswagen to produce the Beetle Dune Concept for 2016

Remember the Beetle Dune Concept car from earlier this year? If not, here is a reminder as to what it is. Basically, Volkswagen takes a standard DSG Beetle with a 210 horsepower 2.0 TSI motor, raises it, and gives it a limited slip differential. It is still front wheel drive which makes one scratch their head as to what dunes this car is going over but Volkswagen is pretty much just interested in giving the Beetle a 'cool' off road look at they call it.

The vehicle is expected in 2016 with Europe getting it first. It has not yet been confirmed for the US although the Beetle is a popular model here and it certainly makes sense. That said, whether it comes or not VWboost itself does not care. If we are to get a special edition Beetle, we would prefer a Beetle R than a Beetle raised 50mm with some wider bodywork.

The guy in charge of the Beetle's marketing for VW stated himself this is a car with mostly cosmetic upgrades, 'The difference between the Dune and the base Beetle is almost exclusively visual. But the more self-assured stance, the redesigned front and rear ends as well as the inspiring crossover character make this version quite special. We believe in fact that the Dune - which will be offered as coupé and cabriolet - is going to be an integral part of the future Beetle line-up.'

You can do better than just a raised beetle with cosmetic upgrades VW.
