Congratulations yet again to Renntech. Not too long ago a Renntech tuned CLS 63 AMG ran 11.3@125 which stood for almost 2 months as the M157 record. The record is now 11.2@126 with a run in negative density altitude at Palm Beach International Raceway. The vehicle was listed as running on slicks and we do not know the fuel but assume race gas. Regardless, well done. 10's are right around the corner for this platform which is just barely getting warmed up. ...Published on 11-30-2011 09:01 PM
The Mercedes SL is a great touring car with a folding hard top. That folding hard top however added a ton of weight to the car. A 2 seat pseudo-sports car should not weigh more than a mid size sedan. This is the reason why the E55 AMG was actually faster than the SL55 AMG since it was lighter. Mercedes intends to drop the weight of the car by 300 pounds which should put it around the 4100 pound mark. How are they doing this? Through extensive use of aluminum in the frame and body shell. SL is supposed to stand for sport-lightweight and although over 4000 pounds is not light dropping weight is the right move. ...Published on 11-29-2011 07:04 AM
Um, this seems to be an answer to a question nobody asked. We have already received the coupe and the sedan is likely coming as well but we just can not figure out why Mercedes would want to do an estate version. The Black Series is supposed to be a hardcore and more track focused version of the base AMG car and we just can not imagine too many station wagon owners wishing their vehicle carved corners better. The pictures do not lie and Mercedes is testing it but the European market is likely where this will have any appeal. ...Published on 11-28-2011 07:59 PM
This is something we have been waiting to see for a while. An M157 comparison between a standard CLS 63 AMG, a performance package CLS 63 AMG, and a Renntech tuned CLS 63 AMG. The standard car puts down 483 wheel and 478 wheel torque. The performance package ups this to 516 and 544 respectively which is a very nice jump. The Renntech tune then takes this to 583 wheel horsepower and 643 wheel torque which is just about a 100 pound-foot gain on top of the performance package. Incredible? Yes. ...Published on 11-27-2011 08:04 PM
The 2011 Formula 1 season is officially over. For Mercedes, there were ups and downs (mostly downs unfortunately). Redbull and Sebastian Vettel simply dominated and it was not ever really close. The fight for second and third place was really the only exciting battle. Michael Schumacher finished the season in 8th place. Interestingly, one spot behind his teammate Nico Rosberg. Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel for a dominating season and we look forward to next year which hopefully is more competitive. ...Published on 11-27-2011 12:43 AM
Well, congratulations to Sebastian Vettel who broke the record for pole positions in a season with 15. This breaks Nigel Mansell's record which stood for 19 years. A remarkable achievement any way one looks at it. Nico Rosberg qualified in 6th place making the top 10 in 18 of the last 19 races. Michael Schumacher in what may be his last race qualified in the 10th position. The last race of the season takes place tomorrow at 8 AM PST. ...Published on 11-26-2011 10:21 PM
Well, that did not take long. Here is the Brabus tuning program for the new W166 ML. The obvious difference is the bodykit which is made out of polyurethane. It consists of an add-on front spoiler, side skirts, LED's, rear spoiler, and a diffuser. Brabus offers Bilstein sport springs which lower the car 30 mm on top of their 22 inch wheels for the W166 ML. A sport exhaust is also available for the ML350 including the diesel version. Overall, a very classy body kit that is not overdone which is to be expected of Brabus. ...Published on 11-25-2011 10:50 PM
We reported in October that the future of the Maybach brand was in doubt as talks with Aston Martin who was to provide future styling for the brand fell through. Autoweek now reports that Mercedes executives stated the brand would be killed off in 2013 as it failed to meet sales expectations. We can not say we are surprised as the Maybach was just really an expensive S-class. Mercedes would agree it seems as rather than offer another Maybach model based on the S-class a top of the line Pullman edition S-class will be sold instead. ...Published on 11-24-2011 09:02 AM
RENNtech is proud to announce our latest ECU performance upgrade for the all new M278 engine currently in the C218 CLS 550, E550, CL550, S550 and other upcoming Mercedes models. We have been hard at work refining our performance tune for these engines and are pleased to announce our latest ECU upgrade. Itís clear that the 4.6L V8 biturbo engine from Mercedes is certainly underrated from the factory and though our extensive testing and R&D; our ECU upgrade truly unleashes the performance lurking in the M278 engine. ...Published on 11-23-2011 05:51 PM
We all knew the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe was going to be an impressive vehicle. We just had no idea it would raise the bar so far. Ex-DTM driver and champion Bernd Schneider was able to get it around the famed Laguna Seca course in a minute and thirty-six seconds. That puts the C63 Black Series on par with the 458 Italia, Nissan GT-R, Lexus LF-A, Porsche, 997 GT3 RS, and Audi R8 GT around the roadcourse. Pretty elite company indeed, check out the laptime list from fasted laps for Laguna Seca below. ...Published on 11-22-2011 09:23 PM
No secret the SLS Black Series is coming. The real questions though are how much it will cost and what the changes will be. Will it have the rumored 650 horsepower? Will it have the rumored $500k price point? We certainly hope not on the latter. MotorAuthority got a video of the car testing and it looks and sounds great (just listen to those throttle blips on the downshifts!). Also one can see a roll cage installed which may be a factory option. The entire car is definitely much more aggressive than the standard SLS. Check out the video and photos below.

We have seen the Renntech M157 twin turbo V8 tune evolve in a very impressive manner over the past few months. Recently, the Stage I tune on a CLS63 AMG ran a 11.3@125 at the strip. Renntech claims 0-60 of 3.4 seconds which is just incredible for a heavy vehicle like the CLS. Crank ratings are 669 horsepower and 734 pound-feet of torque. We will have a Renntech M157 dyno comparison up later in the week.

This is Weistec's trunk mounted water tank upgrade that applies to supercharged M156 vehicles as well as M113 Kompressor vehicles such as the W211 E55 AMG. This will allow one to better cool their supercharged vehicle and assist with the issue of heat soak that affects positive displacement supercharged cars that are making back to back wide open throttle runs. One can put ice in the reservoir to further help cool air charge temperature entering the intake path. Hot water can easily be drained with the drain system.

This is the car we unfortunately missed at SEMA. Luckily, we were able to find great pictures of the build which is simply stunning. The car features a custom exhaust including custom long tube headers. The quality of the welding speaks for itself. A Weistec supercharger kit was installed as well to go with the beautiful exhaust setup. In addition to the performance mods cosmetic pieces (wheels, wing) were added and the final product is simply astounding. An excellent build that shows off the quality of Fluid Motor Union's work inside and out.

Here is our Mercedes coverage from the 2011 LA Auto Show. Our pictures are much improved from the SEMA photos and possibly even too bright as a new high powered flash was purchased. The Mercedes display was pretty impressive with the new ML63 AMG and the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe taking center stage. Mercedes had a showing that was tied for our favorite with Porsche as they showed off almost everything including the new SLK55 AMG as well as the SLS roadster. Note to BMW: This is how it is done.
