. This car is an unofficial successor to the E82 1M taking its place in the lineup as the entry level turbocharged six-cylinder performance coupe. Unlike the 1M the M235i has the N55 inline-6 turbo motor and not the N54 inline-6 twin turbo motor. It also comes in a bit heavier than the E82 M3 with a curb weight of 3494 pounds versus the E82 1M which weighs 3339 pounds.
The F22 2-Series is not exactly as light as one would hope for the size. It is about 3-Series weight which makes one scratch their head as to the advantage over the 335i. That said, handling numbers are about on par with the 1M as the car pulls an impressive .97g on the skidpad and the 1M managed a .98g.
Weight distribution is shying away from BMW's famed 50/50 with a 53/47 front to back. That is not what a BMW's weight distribution is supposed to look like and the turbocharged motors are making BMW's nose heavy. The 1M managed a better 51/49 which is closer to BMW's own stated ideals. 53/47? That looks more like an Audi figure than BMW.
The M235i is not available with a dual clutch transmission unfortunately. A manual or 8-speed automatic is available and MotorTrend tested this car with the automatic. 0-60 comes in 4.4 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.0 @ 106.6. Also slightly worse than the 1M which managed 0-60 in 4.2 and the 1/4 mile in 12.8 @ 109.6 although different ECU software alone could change this. Still, the M235i is slower stock for stock. "
