Mercedes W204 C-class coupe will get 4Matic all wheel drive option for 2012

Mercedes seems to be quite serious about expanding its all wheel drive offerings on all their vehicles. Just recently we announced that the AMG models would be more widely adopting 4Matic and Mercedes intends to put it on entry level cars as well. The 2012 C350 coupe will have optional all wheel drive and we expect it to make it to the sedan as well. Some Mercedes cars are 4Matic only already such as the E550 and CL550.

We had a 2005 C Sedan with 4Matic. One day my wife got it stuck in the mouth of our driveway because she was afraid to plow through the snow drift and out onto the street. The plow leaves a denser compacted layer in the mouth of the drive when it goes by. She stopped right in it instead of just before in and the car got hung up and stuck as a result. I tried to rock it out but the traction control put the brake on any wheel that spun and just bogged the engine out. Traction control could be turned down but not off and the car would not move one inch or even spin its wheels. We had to shovel all the snow out from under the vehicle before it would move. We even tried to push it out with 3 people pushing but without any help from the drive wheels there was no way it was going to move.

On that day 4Matic and Traction Control = FAIL

The rest of the time it works without intrusion and I doubt you would know it is there. It is a must have option for us in the northeast (New Brunswick, Canada).

These manufacturers who won't let you turn off traction control all the way I just don't understand.
