take a picture of the mileage before you get out the car to give it to service then see what its at after?

or mount a go-pro behind your rearview

Taking a picture of the odo is a good idea but will not give you any data on the car when they test drive it after the install. Only way to do that is with a gps tracker which will tell you exactly where the car goes, speed, etc. The only way that I have found that 100% prevents your car from being abused during the test drive is to inform your service adviser that the car is not to be taken out of the shop for a test drive without you in it. Tell your SA to call you an hour or so before the tech is finishing up and that you will come and sit shotgun while the tech tests it. That is the only way to ensure your car is not abused.

Only way to completely avoid the chance is to not take it to the dealer.

But take a picture of the odometer and be prompt to pick it up.
