Cool Arnold's New $250,000 Mercedes Unimog ride

I hope I am posting this in the correct forum section. Schwarzenegger was in California picking up his new ride, a five-ton Mercedes-Benz Unimog pickup customized to a value estimated at $250,000. His diesel Unimog followed a test drive in Germany of the Unimog with its customizer. These trucks aren't sold by Mercedes in the United States, but see duty around the rest of the world as construction, forestry and military haulers, and are renowned for their off-road prowess.Click here to enlargeClick here to enlargeClick here to enlargeClick here to enlargeClick here to enlarge Unimog U1300s generally aren't legal on American roads; they can barely top 60 mph, and getting one registered for public driving in California may have taken months. Then again, having an ex-governor as a customer couldn't have hurt.

ahhaha. I have a friend who worked at the US embassey in Tehran. He would always bring great presents to us from Iran. Always talks about it in a positive way. Never did he say a bad thing about the country and was always looking forward to return.

By the way, your country has one of the best sweets I ever tatsted. I hope i'm saying this right, is it "Falooda"?. Very tasty and sweet.

Thank you for the kind words. Wish everything was the same as your friend described, but unfortunately that country has been ruined more and more for the past few decades.

As for the sweet, that's the name though it's called Faloodeh. Odd thing is usually foreigners like Faloodeh more than us including me. Most of the sweets we have is too sweet for my taste. Click here to enlarge

In the 60's? I can't remember the last time we had an embassy open in Iran.

We use Unimog's in some of our operations.....great trucks but tough to get parts due to complicated importation process.

HA! Yeah, I saw him driving it last weekend on Sunset and Whittier. It's very nice but a little overdone IMO. I'll post a build thread of mine with tons of photos in a few weeks. Here's a teaser - the old and the new Click here to enlarge

You have NO IDEA. I can't believe how much attention this truck gets though...every time I park it somewhere when I come back there are throngs of people around it. It's crazy. Not very practical, but fun to cruise around town in. And valets have no clue how to drive it so it always stays in front lol.

Thanks - it's been a fun project. I bought it with a good friend of mine and we've put a TON of work into it. Pretty much done with everything except the front bumper which we are designing now. Should be finished in a few weeks and I'll start a separate thread.

The last time I drove in a unimog was around 12 years ago, it is so much fun.

My father's company bought several of them for work in Mozambique. They were fitted with snorkels, due to the swamps that had to be navigated, and were the only vehicles to never get stuck. Additionally, with the ride height being what it is and with the tires half filled with water, the occupants of the vehicle were fairly immune to mines left over from the war.
