First unassisted baclflip done in a Mini Cooper Works
A French rally driver claims to have achieved the first ever unassisted backflip in a car, capturing the stunning moment on camera.
Rally Raid world champion Guerlain Chicherit achieved the daring stunt by speeding off a ramp in a Mini Countryman, flipping in the air and landing on his wheels on a separate ramp made out of snow.
"Before the jump it was crazy," he said.
"I was alone in the car before the start and I just had to do it, everything was ready."
Chicherit reportedly spent four years training for the stunt, which he did twice in the south of France overnight.
After landing the car the first time, Chicherit said it took him about twenty seconds to realise he had successfully done the stunt.
"When you attempt something nobody has ever achieved before, the stress is really high but the only way is to just try it," he said.
"It wasn't the craziest thing I've ever done but for sure it's in the top three. It was sick - I just want to do it again!"
The Mini had been specially modified for the stunt, but the exact specifications have not been revealed.
