Brand New 1996 McLaren F1! (no miles)

    Saw this on REDDIT: http://dailyautofix.com/news/want-to...o-miles-on-it/

I can't even imagine what that is truly worth and/or what the asking price is. Thought the shot of the S motor was cool too.

*If anyone on this forum ends up buying it - and found the car because of this post, please think of giving me a ride in it/letting me drive it. :-)

    Cheers.

The owner should be shot (well, in the right foot ore somewhere else minor) for not driving this car all this time.
Someone with enough cash is gonna have an awesome car.

Actually, if you want to ride in something truely exclusive, buy this 1997 CLK GTR roadster that has just come up for sale.
There were only 24 coupes and 6 roadsters made of these. They were made for the homologation of the 1997/98 FIA GT championship.
They are basically racecars adapted to be streetlegal.
This one has omly 150 km on the clock.
    Only €2M,-

Doubt that car will do much driving. The reason being is that it's a race car that is converted into a road car, where that particular type of beginning almost never works out. Also it's so ugly it makes the current Mazdas look extremely good. Since it began it's life as a race car and then it got hacked up to become a road car I'd say that there's about 110% chance this thing will murder itself before it crosses 2k miles on the odometer and will need a complete overhaul.

If you want a 1:1 scale paperweight which is just a museum piece...then yeah the Benz is a good buy, otherwise that McLaren F1 will be much more enjoyable do drive. And it's plenty exclusive, I have yet to see one in the wild and not in a car show.

It's in the middle so it isn't always on the correct side? Or do they switch the gearshift placement?

Maybe is was purchased as an investment. Given that the last unsold F1 was listed for about 2M in 2004 there might have been hopes that it would go up even further.

who even knows when the last time that thing was turned on, you guys do realize when you let an engine sit for 10 years it needs to be rebuilt right?
Some people live long, meaningful lives.

Other people eat shit and die.

Why? I have a classic car with a motor way older than 10 years and it runs fine.

do you ever start it and cycle the fluids though? it sounds like the fluids in the F1 were stagnant for a long ass time. that's what kills the motor when it sits.

Should be rebuilt, probably. Does need rebuilt alot of times no. Look at all the barn finds to to say they don't need some gaskets and such but alot of old barn finds and even old junk yard motors will run and be tested with just basic fluid changes and the carbs cleaned up. Friends got a rusted out VW bug we've let go 5 years at a time without starting it, each time we needed it moved we put a battery in it and it fired right up even on the old gas. We'd change the oil and gas after that and let it sit again until a new body was found for it.
