    335i VS STI Hatch

so hears the deal, going to a drag strip tonight for some rolling races, i know it's weird. But I've got an STI hatch that wants to race me, probably from a roll and from a dig. Mods are as follows

STI: Full invidia sysytem, cobb ots map, and a sf intake

Me: 335i BMS intake, JB4 g4 e30 mix on map 5 (map 7 if anyone thinks I can run it) 2.5 catless downpipes, Big Tom Intercooler, and a muffler delete

I'll be racing a few other cars as well, but i'm not sure exactly what or what mods they'll have.
I'll hopefully be posting videos with my friends gopro but we'll see if he shows up.

From a roll, as long as you're hooking you should crush him. From a dig he'll prob get you off the initial start, but you should real him in once you hook -- FBO with a light E85 blend should have you over 400 WHP.

Just quickly Google'd STI COBB Stage 2+, looks like you're lucky if you hit 300 WHP with the OTS Maps

I had a few roll races with a Cobb Stage2 STI when I had my 335i -- at the time I just had JB4+DCI (before meth). I pulled so hard on the poor thing I couldn't stop grinning. I was surprised how slow it was to be honest, but never did come across any fast STIs on the street. (I've seen some serious cars at shows though ..!)

Yea, like bigup said a tune only 335 should be capable of beating an FBO/Stock Turbo WRX. The thing is (comparatively), it's a lot less expensive & more common to build an STI motor + run a bigger turbo, which can change things around

Didnt get to run the sti but I ran a srt-8 300 and walked it hard, another 335i running jb4 g5 map 5 with dp's and intake and we were pretty even till around 100 when I started pulling on him. My guess is I'm pulling timing and/or the the g4 board is holding me back a bit but it's hard to tell with no USB cable Click here to enlarge

Also raced a supra with what seemed to be around 1000whp, I actually got a great launch off but he pulled the $#@! outa me after I hit 40 lol

You would have destroyed him from a roll. I am able to pull them from a roll. I've run the 07 Sti, the year just before the hatch, and they are faster due to gearing differences and we were a good run until 80-100 or so. That's about when I started to pull from a 40 roll.

that was g5 board... bs standard backend with lower timing targets... it was litteraly about two weeks after I got my car.. meth wasnt in trunk yet chances are I had poor meth flow as my WW kit never wanted to work on this car, but worked perfect on my previous 135i....

he had uppipe downpipe , new MAP or MAF whatever they need for more boost, external gate, exhaust, intake, and a cobb protune... put down mid/high 300s i think... They are really no match... from the dig I just eased off and floored lol... nothing special ...

Stock turbo STI won't hold a candle to Map 7 from a roll, get some E50 in the tank and you'll be good to go (or 100 octane race fuel if the track has it, no leaded stuff).

Ok thanks for the info, I just ordered a USB cable so I can run some logs and see what's up, I'll probably be updating to the g5 board soon too

The new STI's are weak sauce. I haven't found any that are that fast. For instance, I ran a new sedan STI with cat back and mild tune in my Daily 02 wrx wagon (Uppipe, full exhaust, tune, stock turbo) and walked on him.
