Williams switching to Mercedes Formula 1 motor for 2014 - Four teams to run the Mercedes 1.6 liter turbo motor
For the 2014 Formula 1 season teams will be switching to turbocharged motors. 2.4 liter naturally aspirated V8's have been used from 2008 until this season in 2013. They will be replaced with a 1.6 liter turbocharged V6 starting next year. Mercedes has been developing and testing their turbo motor for quite a bit and it seems Williams is impressed as they will run the Mercedes engine for 2014 making for a total of four teams using this motor.
This includes of course Mercedes' own team, Force India, McLaren, and now Williams. With Honda's return as an engine supplier McLaren will switch to them after the 2014 season.
The new turbo motor will be good for something in the 600 horsepower range but this will be attached to an electric system that can deliver another 160 horses. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the racing for 2014.
