    Northern Virginia: Shop Recommendations, Please!

I've placed my order for a new Quaife LSD and decided to let someone else do the swap. The shops that I have contacted (so far) are:

    Funktion Auto
    IMA Motorsport
    Autothority
    AutoScandia

Anyone have experience with these or other shops? I want to make sure the job is done right.

    Thanks.

    P.S.
Why isn't there a mid-Atlantic prefix for posts in this forum?

I've heard nothing about good things about this shop from another member off of e46 fanatics.

This. RRT racing is by far one of the most legit shops on the Atlantic(if not US)

MOTIV750, MOTIV P-1000 PI, MOTIV/FUEL-IT! low pressure fuel system, AEM EMS/COBB AP, Aquamist HFS-3, ETS FMIC, SPEC stage 3+ clutch/SS flywheel, BC Racing coilovers and VMR wheels wrapped in Hankook RS3s.

Because I hate the region and am taking a stand against it. Move to civilization.

Or... I just never added one.

I don't think they want the job. The non-local guys familiar with Quaifes say it shouldn't be more than 5 hours labor. The most expensive local quoted $1200 labor (about 8-9 hours). RRT quoted $2K with a statement "we just don't know - we've never done one on a car this new" and "I'm not a fan of Quaife."

    So, the search continues.

That sounds to me like it means leave it open ended to charge whatever.

Exactly, but if you could have heard the tone of the conversation... It didn't come off like "$2k, but could be less," but more like "We'll start with $2k and go up from there - and by the way, Quaife sucks!"

Thanks, @Sticky. I posted in the other forum that I found an installer in Delaware. I'll do a full write-up once the install is complete.

Well, it looks like I'm back to the search. M-Tech thinks the diff swap is outside their comfort zone. I'd appreciate any and all recommendations!

That would have me a bit concerned about having M-Tech do any work as a diff swap really isn't all that hard.

Weird that these shops are turning down the work, especially RRT. Drive down to NC, I know there's a few shops that will gladly tackle the job.

Funny enough, I sent Kevin Bird an email asking if there were any shops in the mid-Atlantic/North East that he worked with, and mentioned M-Tech's response. To quote Mr. Bird, "If he's honestly not capable of doing this, then I wouldn't even allow him to set my tyre pressures!"

M-Tech said they would only swap a complete diff, not do any internals work, but that there isn't anything else they can't do. Yeah, right.

So... I finally found a local shop that's interested in the job, and I did it by pilfering RennTech's Authorized Dealer list and making a few calls. I know, I know...Click here to enlarge Should have thought of that a long time ago.

At Speed Motorsports (www.atspeedmotorsports.com) stated they just did a Quaife unit in a C63 (should be similar sub-frame/assembly) last week and said it went off without a hitch - 5 hours and done. A lengthy search on the internet for reviews and they seem to be pretty good at what they do. Hourly rates are reasonable and they are MUCHHHH closer than any of the other shops I found. How did I miss them previously?

@ALPHA Performance, I'm still interested in letting you guys do the install, but I haven't heard back on my email yet. Please let me know if you're interested in the Quaife install. Otherwise, I'll be scheduling with the local shop.

Yep, I know where you are. And if I'm going to drive that far, I want to do more than just the diff.
