    Aerodynamic effects - Two Porsche 997.2 PDK 911 Turbo versus Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder rolls race videos, top up versus top down

    The ever popular fill in the blank car versus Ferrari 458 race video. Let's be honest, people like seeing videos against Ferraris partially due to the name and panache. There is a reason a Ferrari was chosen in that classic (well it's classic to guys on automotive enthusiast sites) Fast and the Furious Pacific Coast Highway race scene against the Supra. Regardless, here is yet another race video with a Ferrari 458 this being a Spyder versus the Porsche 997.2 with PDK dual clutch transmission.

    There are two videos. In the first video the Ferrari 458 Spyder has the top down. In the second, the top is up. An interesting comparison showing the effect of aerodynamics on a top end roll race even with a car featuring as streamlined of a drop top design as the 458 Spyder.

    The first run is a fairly close race but the 911 Turbo pulls decisively up top. In the second video where the top is up the 458 Spyder gets a bit of a jump which skews things considerably when trying to do such a comparison. The 911 Turbo still pulls but minimally. It is basically neck and neck with the edge going to the 911 Turbo.

    Definitely an interesting comparison video and obviously when one is racing a convertible car, best to keep the top up for the best results.

    Wow, if you watch the top up video first it's actually pretty noticeable, that's crazy, in a 1/4 mile wouldn't be surprised if it's a .2 sec difference

    And the Ferrari design is almost targa-like. Imagine it with a car that doesn't have as good of a design, larger difference.
