AMG twin turbo motors and dual clutch transmissions 3-4 years away for use in Aston Martin cars
Earlier this year Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz officially announced their partnership regarding technology sharing. Essentially, AMG will be shoring up the glaring weakness in the Aston Martin product line which is dated engine and transmission technology. The AMG twin turbo V8 engines and dual clutch transmissions will make their way into the successors to the Aston Martin Vantage and DB9 models but the replacements are a few years away.
What does this mean? It means the Aston Martin vehicles will likely get the new M177/M178 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 that AMG is working on. This motor will likely replace the M157 5.5 liter V8 and is slated for SLC and W205 generation C63 AMG duty. Paired to a dual clutch transmission Aston Martin's will have some serious muscle and modern technology while meeting modern emissions standards.
Aston Martin vehicles in the next generation will become a very intriguing performance option once their external beauty is matched by the technology under the skin.
