CLK BLACK SERIES THROTTLE BLIP - FINALLY!!!!!!!

I was the first one to complain about this back in 2008 when I bought my CLK Black Series. I even posted an open letter to AMG on the Private Lounge which they responded to and politely said, no, and cited the costs involved for recertification for the US market.

A year after AMG made the BS as a MY 2008 with the Speedshift 7Gtronic, they introduced the Speedshift + for the 2009 MY vehicles. That software change added the rev matched throttle blip when downshifting which mitigates how much the car is unsettled during high speed braking, especially on the track when turning in and late apexing. Many here and on other sites questioned why this was necessary and why I wanted it so badly. Needless to say, someone noticed there were other hardcore roadcourse junkies like myself and a couple guys from Germany have developed the software that enables the blip.

These guys were at Weistec the past few days so I took my car down there to have it flashed. It took about an hour for them to do it and as you can see, it works!! From what I could tell, they simply plugged into the OBDII port for the ECU side and then plugged into the wiring that goes into the TCU under the car near the gearbox. After "marrying" the two units together they then plugged into their laptop to work their magic.

Now, let me just say that there is only so much you can do with a torque converted transmission and the downshifts, while firmer, are still pretty slow. But, the motor now makes a really nice blip to rev match almost simultaneously as the trans lands the shift. The lag between when the paddle is pulled and when the shift actually occurs is still there. But, with long tubes the blip is a glorious raspy crack...especially in the lower gears like 3-2. It's almost frighteningly loud and vicious.

So, is it perfect? No, it's still slow and lumbering during downshifts just as it was stock, but now at least there is this glorious throttle blip and the back end doesn't become nearly as unsettled as it did before. Enjoy the video and a big thanks to Ralf for coming all the way from the motherland to make this happen!!!

Short answer, no. I spoke at length with Steve about it and he said what they are doing is extremely complicated and while it may seem simple, there are tremendous amounts of things going on that have to happen at the exact right time to make the blip possible.

I believe Ralf flew to the States and met up Weistec and Eurocharged and added the throttle blip to those who wanted it.

He could have possibly been there for other business, but as LZH said, adding the throttle blip isn't easy, so Ralf was there doing that.

I just don't understand why Weistec and Eurocharged can not offer this now.

I honestly don't think it is a case of them not being able to offer it, I think Ralf is trying to protect his IP.

We all know how bad the tuning scene is when it comes to people stealing other peoples hard work.

Don't quote me on this though, it is just an assumption.

Of course Ralf wants to protect it and that's fine. So work out a licensing arrangement. More money for him, more money for them, all good.

Weistec and Eurocharged are both stand up companies and I am sure they would never do anything wrong by Ralf, but if his hard work was to get into the wrong hands then before you know it every tuner worldwide would be doing this and all the time and effort he put into getting this working properly could be lost.

Again I don't know how difficult doing this is, or if it is a simple flash of the TCU in a similar method to the ECU tunes, but I am just going by what I have seen in the past in this industry.

This is very true. Reputable, honest, and a pleasure to work with in all honesty. If all my vendors were like them I'd be retired on an island.

I don't know either. We don't really have a straight answer.

Thanks. I doubted they would be there for one person. This is the same tuner that did @Maverick1975 CLK and ML 63's, correct?

Its good to see Weistec working with other tuners

I believe so. Maverick's TCU was sent to Ralf in Germany going from his previous post, but he can chime in to confirm this.

According to sources, a guy from Germany is going tuner to tuner selling this to them. All tuners have this ability as of Friday 2/14. Confirmed OETuning, Eurocharged, and Weistec have it.

Interesting. So if everybody got this code what's the point of dealing with Ralf?

I would venture to say he knew the code was going to get out one way or another and decided to capitalize on it.
